A naive peasant enters an apartment block to find a drink, and the residents mistake him for a thief. As he evades capture, he exposes the venality and dishonesty of the building's residents.

Ashok lives in a chawl in Bombay and is a smooth-talking con willing to cheat anyone. He dreams big, pretends to be rich and even lies to his mother, but everything changes when he falls in love.

A penniless musician is unwittingly forced to trade places with a look-alike diamond merchant/thief causing a comedy of errors by everyone involved.
